Education and Culture

I lived in Maieru the happiest and most beautiful days of my life.” Liviu Rebreanu

Our school is the school of Cuibul Visurilor, Rebreanu’s school, Maria Cioncan’s school, a school with a certain goal: the success!

Between the hills which are connected as an ancestral bucket by the temperamental river of Someş, under the snow view of Ineu, in the swing of Cununa, the school of Maieru has over 1500 „contracts with the future” for 12 groups of pre-scholars, 25 classes of the primary and secondary cycle, 22 classes of regular and evening high school classes, 1 vocational class. By the time, school after school was built, as we have now four units, which are or about to be rehabilitated. We have a rich endowment: modern furniture, cabinets, laboratories of physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, a gym, a sports ground, a library, a documentation and information centre, workshops for technical education. The teaching staff is composed of 82 teachers, with the needed qualification, a good pedagogical instruction, a very special sense of duty and the needed instinct to detect the needs and expectations of our pupils. The auxiliary teaching staff counts 6 people, and the maintenance staff counts 15 people.

The managing staff is composed of the schoolmaster Cristina Hădărău, deputy schoolmaster Adrian Crăciun, and deputy schoolmaster Marcel Ivan, education manager Adriana Dumitru.

The staff of methodical commissions are Elena Ursa – teacher of Romanian language and literature,, Ioan Tripa – teacher of mathematics, Vasile Crăciun – teacher of English language and literature, Valer Bontaş – teacher of history, Ioan Raţiu – teacher of physics, Victoria Ureche, teacher of economic sciences, Liviu Ursa – teacher of physical training, Lucreţia Pârlea – school teacher, Daniela Lorinţiu – school teacher. The responsible for continuous formation is Ancuţa Crăciun, and union leader is Ovidiu Roman.

Who thinks the school in the village remained a place of nostalgia in the mild light of a setting sun, would find here the healing of this prejudgment. You will find in Maieru a school with a complex, coherent and competent vision on education, a school which has found the solutions for education in the rural area. Any pupil here can find satisfaction, feel useful, be prepared to find the place in the society. The flexibility, the interest for the pupil’s problems, viewed in the context school-family-society makes us understand the teacher’s role of deep explorer and jeweller of the children’s potential.

Our children won more contests that the ministry would have promoted. They have been awarded or qualified at the national contest of Romanian language: Aura Berende, Simona Bîrta, in economics, technical curricula, sport, they are Olympians of good sense, of hard-work at home, they are winners who have maintained their families for a fragile age. Here performances are a long term goal.

The secondary level prepares the pupils for the high schools in our county or at national level. The pupils are educated for competence and performance, prepared to exceed their limits, to bring the contribution of their intelligence and work, back to the dreams’ nest, in the fatherland beyond the bridge over time between our birth and eternity.

Founded 11 years ago, in September 2000, the high-school had one class per year, technological branch, profile services. After 4 years, two classes per year are created, major services, specialization technician in economic activities. At present, the technological high-school hosts 4 parallel classes, in different majors: services, mechanics, tourism, and food. Finding its way among other high-schools was difficult, as the pupils with higher potential were attracted by the famous high-schools of Bistrița.

However, little by little, our pupils succeded in saying something in economics, occupying an awarding place starting from 2009: Dorina Partene, 3rd place, in 2010 Ancuţa Victoriţa Bolfă, 3rd place and the most important moment, 2011, Lenuţa Cristina Ureche, 1st place at the Olympiad of technological curricula, county phase, specialization: technician in economic activities, being qualified for the national phase.

The pupils of the Vocation School”Liviu Rebreanu” of Maieru follow formation stages at the economic entities in the area, where they obtain practical knowledge and abilities.

The collaboration with economic agents on Someş Valley has lastef for more than 10 years, many of the pupils who followed the internship at their facilities were employed there after graduation. Among the economic entities that we collaborate with are: S.C. ”MIS Grup” SRL Anieş, S.C. ”Frasinul” SRL Maieru, S.C. ”VIP Forest” Şanţ, S.C. ”Relux on duty” Sângeorz- Băi.

We considered that the education for health is the shortest way to teach the child via rules and norms, so that we initiated the educational project “Mens sana in corpore sano”. It is very important for the kid to understand early that health means not only the absence of illness, but a balanced lifestyle, a hygienic conduct and existence. These habits formed in the family, are completed in the kindergarten, and later in school.

In this project, we carried out a few activities under the slogan: “Water, air, sun = Health”. The project was carried out in common with pre-school children and pupils, consisting of making posters, fliers, by the pre-school children, and the pupils created poems, essays with educative content, in accordance with the topic. We did not forget the health of environment, that is why we built from recyclable materials spring layouts. The Spring Fairy was happy to meet us at a carnival with the teeth well brushed and the hands well washed.

The event which offered us a great satisfaction, both to us and to the children, was the final evaluation in the form of a festivity with the parents in public. The children presented “Our Book”, a flier presenting all hygienic and healthy habits and rules in the form of a daily program that we have to observe at home and in school.

The Magic of Words tells us about a Rainbow hidden under the Hope chest.”

Tradition, inspiration, art, craft, song, game, colour, word, heart – all these can be found in the extracurricular activities proposed by our teachers. Even if their spare time decreases, the quality time that they offer to the pupils increases. These activities complete the children’s education, capitalizing their talent. In these groups, the “crowd” is obvious, as the teachers being captured by serious enthusiasm of the children.

In the folklore class, the “Hope Chest” we can find well folded the ancestral customs of Maieru, traditional suits, scent of basilica, the sweet voices of girls and happy whistles of boys. Their hora dances go round the stages of the country. We cannot ignore the children’s success at the „ Festivalul Prieteniei”, Iaşi, “La porţile dorului”, Bistriţa, Carols festival of Arcalia.

The painting class “Rainbow” was initiated in 2001 in partnership with the school “Jeanne D’Arc”, Nort-sur-Erdre, France. The pedagogy of heart proposes a renewal of school, by creating a harmony environment around the children, which is the adequate climate for the human development. The colours make us happy, we obtain the magic of nature with the tip of the brush, with their young hearts connected to the heart of the Universe. The plastic activities are carried out in different locations, depending on the theme and techniques (classroom, a fine artist workshop, museum, CDI projection hall, in nature).

Strangely, these turbulent times, when “time is no longer patient with us”, the pupils can find an inner will to read. We built together the little reader’s palace. We discover the magic of words and hold charmed formulas to bring the world of stories in our classroom. We are princes and princesses saving the world by the power of words. These impulses are encouraged by the class of creation and lecture “Magic of Words”. All the activities of this class meet the children’s expectations. Among these, we remind: composing the reading journal, stories, questionary, spring festivity, children’s carnival.

The creative writing workshop, the little mathematician, the class of fine arts, choir, sports activities, theatre, dance ar a few of the manners that we invite our pupils to a different after-school program. Here the teacher of mathematics becomes director, the teacher of biology becomes a writer, the teachers of foreign languages sing and dance. If the teacher of geography plans a trip, he can meet the elementary teacher as a twite in chief.

From the travel diary of a geographer, from the journal of an “ornithologist”, from the translations of a francophone, from the literary... calculi of a mathematician.

We climb down Vărăriştea with its birch forest, which crowded the place, and we reach in a lap called Prislop. We see numerous earthworks, which are called here “moine”, meaning almost nothing for the young generation, only a neat playground. Surprised, the pupils find out that this place was full with grain 50-60 years ago. We rest here for an hour in this lovely place, and admire the sunset beyond Măgura Porcului. A beautiful fall day is ended, and we must leave because the evening falls. We climb down Prislop following the path on Calea Muncelului...”

Wednesday with an ornithological-naturist trip. Strict rules: tidiness, silence, ecology, good mood! The siskins rest on the fences! While the herbs tickle our ankles, three melba swifts flew like a thunder tingling above us! A sunbird hawk nipped by a couple of martins fell like a meteor behind the birches. It’s hot and snowing with poplar down. In the evening, the crickets singing, the duck moles, the redstarts, the bombina grogs, what a frenzy!”

Today, francophony represent, on one side, the group of countries or official entities which have in common the use of French language at work or in the relations between them, and on the other side the world movement referring to all those who use French language, partially or integrally, in the everyday life or in communication. The francophone days in Maieru – an opportunity of shows after 3.00 p.m.. Also in french, theatre, songs, dance, apparel. We invite famous francophones from Anieş and Sângeorz. They will travel with the famous French civilization put into a show by the people of Maieru, with the yellow vehicle of the hosting school, known as “The Bell”. Bon voyage ! “

Besides the fact that – look at me, I am a writer – script writer, director, for me this represented an opportunity to know my pupils from a different perspective, not only as a teacher of mathematics, which disadvantages them maybe as compared to the quality of “artists”.

Honestly, I had such emotions until the moment I started to read my first „play” (as I like to kid), whether they would consider it silly (young people today seem to have other range of values). I was relieved while reading the play, as they starting to laugh, which meant they understood and loved the play. They were so glad... My emotions continues: Could-they learn these long roles? Could they give life to the characters as I created them?

One after another I loved it and they loved it too, they were very appreciated by their colleagues from other classes, and by my colleagues, their teachers. Finally, it is worth mentioning that they receive the 1st prize at the section of Theatre, from the Jury of the Cadets Ball and they were very proud with the diplomas and the prise.”

Young gilded people

On June 19, 1977 Maria was born, the second to Cioncan family. The school of Maieru and the first meeting with the sports performance in a group of ski fond were for Maria the first bricks in the construction of the most tragic destiny of a valuable representative of the Romanian sport. The bronze of the Olympic meal, with her blue eyes in tears on the Olympic podium impressed in 2004 the whole world. This was actually the reward of the silent hard work of an exceptional sportswoman.

The Memorial Maria Cioncan is now at its 3rd edition, and proposes to keep the memory and inoculate her dedicated spirit of a winner to a larger number of young people to practice athletics, following the example of a great athlete who used to speak with dignity about material difficulties, sport, ambition, barriers, or honesty in sport. She is the example that her shoes were charmed and if you know how to wear them you can turn into a queen of the stadiums, of the dreams come true by hard work and perseverance and even sacrifice.
The hundreds of children, the involvement of the majority of the county institutions, the Olympic Academy, the Romanian Federation of Athletics, the management of the school and local Town Hall, and of the group of real professionals of the sport. To all these, we can add the presence and the touching support generously offered every year by Professor Beregszaszi Ştefan, Maria’s trainer and the soul father.

One does not need teachers all the time to win awards for the school!

‘’Black Bandits’’ was founded about two years ago, when two boys of the school decided to find persons willing to be members of this group. And… five persons joined them. After several months of training and hard work, we attended the street dance “Cup of high-schools”, fourth edition. We won nothing, and none of us was willing to attend such a contest anymore. After the summer holidays, we forgot the failure, and decided to pay back. We trained alone for two months, each evening, from 5 to 8 and we won the special prize offered by “Observator” in a full, acclaiming Polivalentă hall.

Mr. Mayor Vasile Borş, who invited us to the Spring Clean-up, as usual, we received the Prise of the Local Council, “a few” hundred thousand lei for the payment of electrical power, water, heating, current repairs in school and in the gym, the travels for Olympiads, the contests, and a modes promise for a new kindergarten, the fourth one!, for the kids of Maieru.
